Instructor Biography

Janusz Pozniak

I have been blowing glass since starting College in England at age 19. At 25 I moved to Seattle to work with Dale Chihuly and  then shortly after for Dante Marioni, with whom I still work with and share his studioI have had the good fortune to work with many people who’s work I respect tremendously, including Lino Tagliapietra, Benjamin Moore, Sonja Blomdahl, Dick Marquis, Josiah McElheny and many more. I consider myself fortunate to be able to do what I love, to work with friends and share what I have learned along the way.

DH McNabb

Seeing, looking, searching for a new. Encouraged by parents that traveled, Ioften found myself spinning the globe in my father’s office looking at where they had been and where I too may some day go.Glass has been an educational journey both from an academic and a practical stand point.  The journey started academically in 1999 at Centre College and then continued with my MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012. Corning, Seattle, Prague, Lybster, Weil am Rhein, Murano, Nuutajärvi,  Istanbul, Toyama, Saint-louis les Bitche and Bergen are just a few of the places this material has taken me. Along the way, I have been fortunate to work, assist and collaborate with many artists who have helped me in the medium and in life in general. Noosh will send in later"

Our practices and what we make line the history books and take in aspects of the Studio Glass movement. We look forward to refining your glassmaking prowess not just as a maker but also as a thinker and assistant to the material.

Utilitarian wares to sculptural objects will be made and common threads and inspirations will be drawn. We will go over a wide range of techniques from cane to wraps, handles and fades to the many various types of punties and their how's and whys.

During our brief time we will stress the small stuff from good gathers and bubble setups to explaining how to straighten and fix various forms when things don’t go as planned. Teamwork will be stressed. Simply another set of eyes can be refreshing and help insure that the object(s) you collect from the annealer were worth your time.

Janusz brings over 30 years of experience and DH brings over 20 years. They worked together in Seattle on Janusz’s own projects and assisted Dante Marioni, Lino Tagliapietra and others. These shared experiences have developed their own individual practices but most importantly they look forward to making objects together and aiding you in your pursuits during this week.
