Instructor Biography

Born 1982 on a small island in the Pacific Northwest Raven grew up in a rural setting. Spending time on the water, and exploring his surroundings instilled a reverence for the natural world. Raven started blowing glass in high school, and worked with Karen Willinbrink-Johnsen on the William Morris team after graduating. His upbringing informs the work he makes today, and he strives to offer glimpse of the natural beauty that is his inspiration to the viewer, through his life like creations.

Raven continues to reside in the Pacific Northwest, where he makes is work in his private studio that he shares with His wife, and fellow glass artist Kelly O'Dell.

This class is designed to challenge your understanding of the medium of glass. We will start with an overview of the basic techniques used when sculpting glass, and build on that foundation. You will be encouraged to innovate, and problem solve, at the drawing board, and at the work bench.

Chris Ahalt will be teaching simultaneously in the flame shop, and we hope to explore some collaborative concepts, in the hot shop. The cross pollination of the two studios will be an added facet, and present challenges that will illustrate the importance of communication and teamwork in the hot shop. Hope to see you there!
