Liz Wright is a Virginia-based artist with over 10 years of experience working with borosilicate glass. Influenced by her upbringing in Virginia Beach, where she spent her formative years completely fascinated by the wonders of the ocean, she is known for her delicate sculptural work of marine life encapsulated in clean, hollow functional forms. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016, she apprenticed in a flameworking studio in Richmond, Virginia where she was able to hone in her sculpting while learning valuable pipe-making techniques from industry leading artists, who would soon become her peers and collaborators. Wright enjoys creating glass art that invites the viewer to form deeper connections and interact with her work by becoming part of the story.

Bring your sculpting to the next level and learn how to breathe life into your glass art. In this class we will create sea life imagery by focusing on solid sculpting of borosilicate glass. All the essential fundamentals of detailed sculpting techniques will be covered including heat control, color application, bit work, welding, bridging, and accenting with the aim of enhancing your understanding of the nature of glass so you can apply these skills to your art. Demonstrations will include a variety of different marine life sculptures followed by hands-on learning and open discussions on the nuances that will bring your sculptures to the next level.

All levels welcome, however, some glass experience would be beneficial to students. They should have a basic understanding of flameworking, how to operate a torch, use hand tools, and have some experience working independently.
