Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays

Born in Argentina, graduated in Ceramics and Design, I moved to Italy in 1980, I have been working with glass since 1983.

My encounter with Narciso Quagliata, creator of the "Light Painting" technique, was fundamental, encouraging me to get my own artistic language. I developed a personal technique, characterized by effects of great optical depth.

My works, intense "portraits of forests", are preserved in public and private collections such as the Museum of Decorative Arts in Milan, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of Fine Arts in Newark, the Hotel Murano, Tacoma, the Mobil Museum of Fine Arts; Museo Nazional del Vidrio, Segovia, Cafsejian Center Of Arts & Contemporary Art Museum, Yerevan,  and more.

Loving teaching, I taught the "Di Fiore" technique in Italy, USA, Argentina, Spain, Uruguay and Australia and run my own international educational program in my studio in Italy.

Seasons: Landscapes and Depth in Fused Glass
When: Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays, Jun 30 - Jul 4
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Dates: Jun 30; Jul 1, 2, 3, 4
Tuition $950.00
Instructor: Miriam Di Fiore

During this class Miriam will demonstrate the basic processes used to create her kilnformed scenic imagery. To begin, you will create several tests and samples. Then, learn to translate a landscape image into glass adding the sensation of depth by layering Bullseye sheet glass and frit. You will also make and incorporate custom vitrigraph stringers that can be additionally worked with a torch and used in the piece. It is a long process that combines soft flameworking, fusing, and multiple firings. It is always a “little miracle” to get a piece accomplished in only five days. Because of this you will create one pre-selected winter landscape chosen by Miriam. You will follow the process step-by-step to get the entire image translated into a flat glass piece with depth and an extremely realistic effect while gaining a complete vision and understanding about the process.

The process Miriam has developed and teaches is very complex, and best for students with at least 3 years of experience with fusing. Students should have a good understanding of glass behavior and annealing; knowledge of Bullseye glass & frit as well as COE 90 glass.
