Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays

I studied glass and architecture at Central St. Martins School of Art and Design in London after previous careers as a telecommunication engineer and clinical perfusionist. Based in southwest Scotland, I work with powders and sheet glass, creating vessel forms using gravity. I have worked with this method for the past 20 years and still find new ways to explore the properties of mass, heat, and time to create new works. I make intense color combinations and patterns, physically drawing into opaque and translucent glass powders, leaving spaces in the piece for the light to react.

Small Vessels with Powders and Sheet Glass
When: Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays, Jun 17 - Jun 21
Time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Dates: Jun 17, 18, 19, 20, 21
Tuition $900.00
Instructor: Amanda Simmons

Amanda will demonstrate her techniques for working with sheet glass and powders throughout the week and will highlight some of her own studio work as examples. We start with making samples in each medium, building a small collection to inform your work during the week and beyond. Adjusting the temperature in different firings will give many different finishes to the vessels as well as engraving into the flat blanks. You will go home with a collection of small sheet and powder vessels, plenty of notes on the technical side of making vessels plus guidance on going larger scale.

This class is suitable for beginners and those who want to advance their vessel skills.

Join us for a second week in the Kiln Shop with Amanda Simmons. Sign up for this class and Big Powder Vessels next week.
